2011’s 30 Fabulous Vancouver Mom Bloggers: 13-18

Check out more of our fabulous mom bloggers, in contention for the top spot when voting begins next week. The first twelve can be found here and here, but now say hello to:

Rachel Jonat of The Minimalist Mom

Rachel Jonat (pictured above) is a former National Team Rower turned Marketing Coordinator and now at stay-at-home mom/freelance writer. She’s a fan of urban living and has lived in downtown Vancouver since 2006. In October of 2009, Rachel’s son Henry was born and life changed dramatically. Feeling overwhelmed with a young child and a cluttered home, she started her blog to document her journey to voluntary simplicity. Debt reduction, small wardrobes and how to tame the toybox are a few of the topics she covers on her blog. Says Rachel:

I desperately needed motivation and support to reduce clutter around our home. My maternity leave was coming to an end and all that time spent in our downtown condo made me realize we had too much stuff. I had spent the summer of 2010 reading up on the minimalist movement and people living with 100 things or less. It was fascinating stuff but I knew the extreme wasn’t for us. Instead my husband and I took a moderate approach to decluttering our home and reducing our lifestyle costs. The result has been that I can now stay at home with my son and pursue my passion for writing.

Janice of Janice’s Mash-Up

Janice is a 40-something mom living in the Steveston area who loves to bake, garden, papercraft, read, take photos, travel and spend time with her family. She says:

Over the last few years, I have really enjoyed reading others’ blogs for inspiration and insight into all sorts of issues. I started my blog in 2010 when I decided to document my family’s year (Project 365) with a blog post each day. My original intent was to have a e-scrapbook of our year but one that could easily be shared with family and friends online. Once I started, I found I really enjoyed writing and reflecting on our family’s adventures and the simple things that make up our lives. Blogging has helped me to take the time appreciate and think about things. Although my blog is a personal one, I am finding that others are reading it beyond family and friends. One of my personal mottos is to think and learn every day…if my mash-up of a blog helps to inspire or help others think about something in their own lives a little differently or to try something new then that’s great!

Michelle Carchrae of The Parent Vortex

Michelle is a freelance writer and the mama in the vortex at her blog, The Parent Vortex. She blogs about the intersection between parenting and psychology, attachment, self-discipline and personal growth, and goes out and about everywhere else with two little girls in tow. Says Michelle:

I started The Parent Vortex as a way to join in the conversation about attachment parenting that was happening in the blogging community. My blog began with a focus on parenting books and other resources, but I realized that most of the work of becoming a better parent was not as much about learning specific techniques to use with my children as it was about being a stronger person myself. This is one of the biggest things I’ve gained from blogging so far.

Monika Whitney of Aias Dot Ca

If you had told former not-for-profit consultant and self professed work-a-holic Monika Whitney that she would someday be a stay-at-home mom, she would have said you must be dreaming. But sometimes life throws you a curveball, and in Monika’s case, it was the form of a sweet little blonde boy named Aias. Through the life altering experience of becoming a parent, Monika traded a fast paced life of professional development, event planning and self exploration for a life of breast feeding, cloth diapering, attachment parenting and a love of family; and she wouldn’t change it for the world. Monika and her partner Morgan started Aias Dot Ca as a private blog to share milestones and pictures of their son Aias with family members and close friends all around the globe. Over time it slowly evolved into a space to discuss various topics pertinent to Crunchy Western Canadian parents.

Teri Brewer of Hit by TNT

Teri is married and a mother of two daughters. She is the owner of 30 Minute Hit in Burnaby. Teri & Terri (T ‘N’ T), wwners of 30 Minute Hit franchises in Bunaby and Edmonton, are long time friends, love what they do, and want to share our experiences in helping women of all kinds lead happier and healthier lives.

Says Teri: Since joining the 30 Minute Hit family, we have been inspired by the transformation of our members on a daily basis, and in this blog we hope to pass on how the HIT has changed our lives and empowered the women around us, with updates on our daily experiences (sometimes crazy), inspirational stories, fit tips, the daily slugfest that is so rewarding, and much much more.

Madeleine Shaw and Suzanne Siemens of The Lunablog: periods, politics and personalities

Madeleine Shaw and Suzanne Siemens are co-founders of Lunapads.com, a Vancouver-based business dedicated to providing eco positive alternatives to disposable pads and tampons. In addition to running Lunapads, Madeleine and Suzanne are moms to young children and are active as volunteers with local organizations supporting women’s entrepreneurship, green business and environmental issues.

The Lunablog: periods, politics and personalities, was started in 2006 to explore social and media perceptions around women’s bodies and menstruation, as well as environmental issues, feminism, pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding, women’s entrepreneurship, and the introduction of new Lunapads products. The blog is also the main place where we share stories about Pads4Girls, our in-house social profit program that supports girls’ education in developing nations through donations of our products.

We incorporate a variety of voices in addition to our own, featuring guest bloggers as well as Lunapads staff members. The blog is the primary point of contact with our community of like-minded progressive women from around the world, bringing us rich and diverse conversations, new product ideas and invaluable feedback.
