Back to School: cute shops to get your kindergartener ready for the big day

The first day of school is a pretty big deal. There aren’t many things you need to do or buy to prep your wee one in terms of school supplies, but it helps if they have a few items like backpacks, pencil cases, and a little gift to greet their new teacher with. Here are some great local spots to find the goodies.

Where to shop

Dilly Dally

Dilly Dally stocks plenty of fun and adorable backpacks, pencil cases and lunch kits. Give your little scholar a leg up by grabbing an A to Z Lower Case Magnatab to practise letter writing at home.

1161 Commercial Drive, Vancouver

Book’mark The Library Store

If you’re shopping downtown, pick up a few affordable pencils and crayons, used children’s books and educational puzzles here. It’s also a great stop to find a teacher’s gift. Plus, it’s pretty cool that the proceeds of sales support the Vancouver Public Library.

350 Georgia Street W, Vancouver

Kaboodles

Kaboodles carries a literal kaboodle of art products for tiny hands including the ever-so-elusive pair of safety scissors. They even stock a few environmentally friendly products for little green feet. And if you’re an elementary school teacher or non-profit preschool teacher, ask about the store’s 10 percent discount.
